beekeeping course

You've got Bee-Mail!

The Honeycomb Valley hotline was running hot with news the postie couldn't deliver the mail to one of our neighbours up the road due to a letterbox full of honeybees. So we called in our beekeeping course host, Rod the Bee Man, to help the mail get through! Here are some pics from our morning adventure.

Drama at the Beekeeping Course

Just had the pleasure of hosting award-winning playwright Caleb Lewis on the farm who is researching a stage play based around a beekeeping theme - such a lovely guy and so interesting to hear his ideas for a great theatre production. He joined in on one of our beekeeping courses and even gave the kids a creative writing lesson. Hopefully the curtains will rise on his play in a year or two and we wish him all the best for a lot of buzz when it does.

Beekeeping Experience
Thank you for an informative and enjoyable introduction to beekeeping. We found that carrying out the full operation from opening the hives right through to bottling the honey helped us gain a better understanding about what beekeeping is all about.

Honey and Native Bees Love Obelia Bushes…and Fiddlewood too!

There are all sorts of plants you can set your garden or farm up with if you’d like to provide nectar and pollen for bees. Two to investigate are Obelia bushes and Fiddlewood.

Obelia bushes are just delightful and the buzz of bees around them gives you a great hint to their popularity in the bee kingdom.

Fiddlewood, is much larger and the scent of its tiny blossoms are just divine. You can see some pics of them below (Fiddlewood is the first two images).

Bee Close Ups from the Farmstay

So cool...the relo's brought a macro lens and funky camera with them when they came to visit for Christmas, so the farmstay bees get to have their 2 minutes of fame! How are these for some great close ups! We also brought in 4 boxes of honey...all hand-spun so it's as close to natural as possible with no heat at all so the honey retains all its best qualities - super yum and light! A mix of ironbark and clover...yummmmm!

Where to Buy Beehives in NSW

Had a great day out with Rod the Beeman, our Helpxers and our bees as we checked in on some of our young colonies. They've been building out the wax in their frames well and are looking great. Rod who runs our beekeeping courses at the farmstay has decided to start selling bee hives complete with bees, honey & boxes etc. So if you're interested in buying some beehives and you're in NSW, send us an email and we can put you in touch with Rod.
