If We Build It, They Will Come - Construction of the Native Bee Motel begins!

We have been so lucky in that though February and March are traditionally quiet months for the farmstay, they are great months to welcome wwoofers and Helpx workers to the farm to help us move forward on projects. The last few weeks we have been incredibly blessed to play host to helpers from France (thanks Gilles, Charles & Laure), Norway (Therese & Cassie) and.... Australia (Netti and Phil)!

3 girls, a paddock, and a makeover

We had to keep checking Mira, Mirjam and Winja's back for sprouting wings, because they really were like angels...angels with attitude, stamina and a great sense of fun! These Austrian and French wwoofers were hilarious, smart, determined and wow - did they plough through the work...literally!  . They leave us today to enjoy the rest of their Australian travels, and our NSW farmstay family will miss them mucho!

3 girls and a farmstay

Here are some pics from 10 days in the life of Honeycomb Valley Farm, as seen through the eyes of Mira, Winja and Mirjam. These wonderful wwoofers (willing workers on organic farms) from Austria and France gave us lots of laughs and lots of memories....and when you see the other post we're about to do - you'll see they gave us so much more, pulling out all stops to help us create the cottage garden section of the ethnobotanical garden and Native Australian Bee sanctuary!

The Caped Mowing Crusaders

The caped mowing crusaders Troy & Sean from the US have been helping us out at the farmstay for the past week getting the wildlife corridor mulched, all the tree guards taken off the 1200+ trees, and keeping us and the animals entertained as well. Thanks to Helpx we keep meeting great people from all over the world, such a great exchange program! We'll miss you guys!

2 weeks on the farm through the eyes of Sarah & Simone from Germany

We've just farewelled the lovely Sarah and Simone from Germany who spent two weeks with us through the Helpx program. Here are some of their favourite pics. We were so lucky to have them join us at the farmstay at the midway point in their round the world trip. Next they're off to New Zealand and then onto Costa Rica. We loved them, the kids loved them, the animals loved them and the bus groups loved them - yay! Enjoy the rest of your trip girls, it was great having you at the farmstay!

A week on the farm through the eyes of Cobe & Eric from Hong Kong

So lucky to have been helped over the last week by Cobe and Eric from Hong Kong who joined us as part of the Helpx program. They took some great photos while they were here, and here are some of them.

Photos from the farmstay from the last few weeks

We are so lucky that through our lives we get to meet so many wonderful people from Australia and around the world. The last few weeks we've had some great farmstay guests, bus tour visitors, and a very special couple of wwoofers (willing workers on organic farms). Louisa and Emily came into our lives from the UK, and it was like they were instant family.

Why a Farmstay in NSW needs to say thanks to the English & the South Koreans!

Today we said a fond farewell to Tegan (UK) and Joo (South Korea) who have been Helpx/Wwoofing (willing workers on organic farms) at Honeycomb Valley Farmstay in exchange for their second year visa. It’s been a great exchange and was so good to host them as they got involved in all aspects of farmstay life from honey spinning to orchard mowing, goat milking to helping with bus group tours. Their crowning achievement was completion of our second chicken-tractor caravan, a recycled old caravan that has now become penthouse accommodation for another merry band of chooks!

The Farmstay's Secret Garden full of corn, sunflowers, beans and more

Sometimes we want even more room to plant into than our raised bed garden allows, so one of the spots our chicken tractor had been on was converted a couple of years ago to another small plot. This is the patch where we pop things we want extras of. So one year it was a whole heap of garlic, another year watermelons and this year our English Helpxer Tom made it is his baby and weeded it and planted it with all sorts of things. Sorry Tom and Steph that you're not here to enjoy it (we miss you guys but at least we have the two goats named after you!) .

Helpx Farmstay Recipe - Chinese - Vegetarian Spring Rolls

Addy and Tan our great Helpx from Hong Kong have emailed us their super delicious vegetarian spring roll recipe that Tan made for us when they lived at the farmstay with us for a week. Yum!

You can see a pic of Addy & Tan below alongside Sepp & Maria (Canadian Helpx). The white stuff on their face making them happy is our Honeycomb Valley Farmerceuticals goat's milk and raw honey face mask!
