Organic Farmers Markets in Sydney

Wow, what a weekend! We headed down to Sydney to give the organic markets a try and ended up having a fantastic weekend catching up with lots of past farmstay guests...who would have thought you could fit 12 kids behind the counter of our little stall!?!

A poem about bees

At the Taree Envirofair yesterday where we had a stall selling our goat's milk soaps and lip balms, and selling Sun Baked cookies from our Sun Ovens, I had one of those magic moments.

Our kids always find something to amuse themselves with at the markets, whether it be a fellow stallholder's puppy, other kids to play football with, or as was the case yesterday...a drumming workshop and face painting too!  But our 9 year old daughter also sometimes uses part of our stall to sell her poetry.

Lead in Lipsticks..and what's in your lip balm?

Was reading a story today by Stacey Singer that appeared in the SMH. It was aptly titled "Kiss of Death as Lippie Tests Positive for Lead".

According to Singer, "tests conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration last year on 22 red lipsticks found lead, a neurotoxin, in every single lipstick sample studied. The highest levels were in three well-known and common brands: Cover Girl, Revlon, L'Oreal.

We went down the soap-making route because our youngest daughter suffers from eczema and itches and rashes (super sensitive in skin, not in humour thank goodness! :) ) so we wanted to find an alternative for her that didn't have steroids, petrochemicals or fake chemical fragrances in it.

Plastic lunch boxes new health warning

Well, the gorgeous 5yo headed off to big school with the big siblings yesterday and came home with an even bigger grin than she'd left home with. Yay!

The Hunch: BPA-free Klean Kanteen vs Sigg Bottles

A few years back when I first heard about potential health problems being caused by drinking from plastic water bottles, I began researching alternatives for my children.  The bottle with the most brand awareness at the time, and the bottle most stocked by retailers, seemed to be the SIGG bottle which was made of aluminium with a lining so there was meant to be no toxicity from the aluminium.  While I continued with my research, I ordered a couple for my kids...it was a few days later I discovered the

Teflon Toxic? Exxon Mobil + BP, Internet Banking Exposure + Unemployment & More

Over the past 30 years, toxic chemicals, like Teflon, plastics, and formaldehyde have increasingly invaded our homes. We used to think these substances were harmless, but a rising tide of evidence has turned the spotlight on chemical exposures as a possible poison to our children's developing brains.

  • A CHEMICAL commonly used in plastic bottles may be harmful to the heart, a number of US studies have found. Bisphenol A (BPA) is used in the manufacture of items such as baby bottles, food containers and refillable drink bottles.
